Day 1: CUSCO: City Tour and nearby
ruins
Reception at the airport and transfer to selected hotel in
Cusco. After arrival we suggest some rest in the hotel in
order to avoid altitude sickness. In the afternoon, city tour
of Cuzco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral, the Temple
of the Sun or Korikancha and the Cathedral. Walk in the bohemian
district of San Blas. Visit to its church and some of the
craft shops in its small Main Square. On the way back to Cusco
downtown, pass through Hatunrumiyoc Street with its famous
Twelve-angled stone. Then, drive to the Inca sites of Kenko,
Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the fortress of Sacsayhuamán.
Day 2: CUSCO: Sacred Valley of the
Incas
Excursion to the "Sacred Valley of the Incas". Visit
to the Inca Citadel of Pisac and its sundial or "Intihuatana".
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, you can browse through
the arts and crafts of Pisac's typical Indian market. There's
a Catholic mass service on Sundays in Quechua, the native
language.
Buffet Lunch at Posada del Inca Yucay hotel
After lunch, and through the towns of Calca and Urubamba,
visit to the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo. In
the way back to Cusco stop of at the village of Chinchero
with the ruins of the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui.
Day 3: CUSCO: Machu Picchu
Early morning transfer to Cusco train station for a three
hour train journey to Machu Picchu, also known as "The
Lost City of the Incas". The train trip will take you
through different climates, cold (Cusco), temperate (Ollanataytambo)
and warm (Aguas Calientes and Macchu Pichu). Arrival at Aguas
Calientes station followed by a 30-minute bus drive, climbing
6km of winding road, to the marvelous citadel. Upon arrival,
you will participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting
the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial (the
most important preserved Intihuatana), the Royal Quarters,
the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds.
After the tour you'll have time to stroll around the archaeological
site at your leisure. Lunch at a restaurant at Aguas Calientes
town. Overnight at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Day 4: CUSCO: Aguas Calientes
Visit to the hot springs of Aguas Calientes.Note: A second
visit to Machu Picchu is optional and at your own expense.
Late in the afternoon, return to Cuzco by train. Overnight
at Cuzco selected hotel.
Day 5: CUSCO / PUNO: Kalasaya Temple
Early in the morning transfer to bus station for a 10 hour
ride to the city of Puno, through La Raya Ranch to see herds
of vicuñas and llamas; further south, through the mountain
range of Vilcanota with its snow covered peaks of La Raya
and Kunurana; then along the high plateau of Collao, stopping
at the town of Ayaviri to visit the impressive Temple of Kalasaya,
ruins from the ancient Pucara Culture. Buffet lunch at a typical
restaurant. Snacks onboard. Evening arrival in Puno, transfer
to selected hotel for overnight.
Day 6: PUNO: Titicaca Lake - Islands
of Uros - Island of Taquile
Early in the morning, a two-hour motor boat excursion on the
waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique Floating "Islands"
of the Uros. These ancient inhabitants of the lake have built
their own "islands" by periodically adding new layers
of a type of reed unique to the area called "totora".
Contiunuing from there to Taquile island, inhabited by Quechua-speaking
natives. After lunch at a local Taquile inn, walk through
the various hills and archaeological sites of this 6km long
island. In the afternoon, return to Puno for overnight at
selected hotel.
Day 7: PUNO: Chullpas of Sillustani
Early in the morning bus visit to the Chullpas of Sillustani,
located on the shores of Lake Umayo. The "chullpas"
were funeral monuments for local dignataries and other important
people. Return to Puno. Overnight.
Day 8: PUNO / LA PAZ: Tiawanacu
Early in the morning transfer to the bus station for a 7 hour
ride from Puno to La Paz, in Bolivia. On the way, stop at
the town of Chucuito to visit Inca Ullo, or The Fertility
Temple, stone sculptures in the form of a human phallus. Then
visit to the Catholic Churches of Juli and Pomata built by
the Jesuits during Spanish colonial times.
Lunch on the way.
At Desaguadero over the international bridge to Bolivia. Then
stop at Tiawanaku. Guided tour of the site visiting its Main
Square, palaces, temples and its famous "Puerta del Sol".
Upon late afternoon arrival in La Paz, transfer to selected
hotel for overnight.
Day 9: LA PAZ: City tour and Moon
Valley
In the morning, half day city tour of La Paz, including, the
Murillo Square, the Temple of San Francisco, streets and old
colonial mansions, visiting likewise the Witches's Market
and the residential quarters of La Paz. Proceed to the Moon
Valley, near La Paz, where time has eroded and molded nature,
creating a moon-like landscape. Return to the hotel. Overnight.
Day 10: LA PAZ
Transfer to the airport on time to catch your flight. End
of services.
